Manchester Aquatic Centre (MAC)
Both competition and training will be centred at Manchester Aquatic Centre (MAC) - Europe’s largest community swimming pools complex. Opened in 2000 and built at a cost of $60 million it was the venue for the swimming, diving and synchronised swimming competitions at the XVII Commonwealth Games and the venue for the 2002 Commonwealth Water Polo Tournament. Situated just 1km (walking distance) from Manchester City Centre and the team hotels, it will provide competition and training pools located on the same deck. The MAC is modern and will require no material capital adaptation or refurbishment.

Facilities
50m  8 x lane competition pool to be used for the Championships and training.
25m 6 x lane diving pool to be used as the training pool.
50m 4 x  lane training pool which can be made available if needed.
Spectator seating for approximately 700 spectators.
It is believed to contain the world’s largest area of movable floors and booms which can be reconfigured to form pools of varying sizes and depths.
The building form controls the acoustics.
Floodlighting is positioned to avoid unwanted reflections, to enable ease of maintenance and to meet the requirements of LEN.

Car Parking

Pay and display parking is located in the multi storey car park opposite the aquatics centre. 12 Disabled badge holder spaces are located at the front of the building

 

Services for Disabled Spectators

Wheelchair spaces are available with one companion seat each.
A lift is available for wheelchair users.
Guide dogs are permitted.
Accessible toilets.

Manchester Aquatic Centre is located approximately 1 km from the City Centre and the hotels and competitors and officials will be able to take advantage of the complimentary shuttle service to and from the accommodation and Championship venue.
